With a view to the European elections to be held from 23 to 26 May 2019, the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) unveils today its manifesto for future MEPs and members of the College of the European Commission. In the context of the increasing internationalisation of family and economic relations, the CNUE is seeking through this manifesto to make a series of recommendations and proposals in order to respond better to the needs of practitioners and citizens.

Our priorities for the European Union
The European elections are coming at a turning point for the European Union, which urgently needs to reconnect with its citizens and represent their interests. In this perspective, the CNUE has identified five main themes in its fields of action to be addressed by the European Union:
1. Fostering the development of non-contentious justice in Europe
2. Facilitating the settlement of successions in Europe
3. Supporting families in Europe
4. Protecting the vulnerable
5. Acting in the fight against money laundering

Mr Pierre-Luc Vogel, President of the CNUE, stated: “Notaries are the legal advisors to citizens and companies. They accompany them throughout the major stages of life: marriage contract, purchase of real estate, settlement of an inheritance, company statutes, etc. Every month, several million clients come through the doors of a notary’s office. And we are facing a steady increase in the number of cases with a cross-border element. Through this manifesto, we are committed to working alongside the European institutions to provide legislative and practical solutions to the challenges faced by citizens whose lives are now part of the European area”.
