Martine Reicherts, new Commissioner for Justice

Following her hearing by the European Parliament on 16 July, Ms Martine Reicherts will replace her Luxembourg compatriot Ms Viviane Reding at the European Commission as Commissioner in charge of the Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship portfolio. Ms Reding has become an MEP and will work in particular in the Parliamentary Committee on International Trade.

Ms Reicherts will be Commissioner until the end of October when the new college of Commissioners will be appointed. Ms Reicherts is the former Deputy Head of Cabinet of Jacques Santer, the President of the European Commission from 1995 to 1999. She is currently Director General of the EU’s Office for Official Publications in Luxembourg.
