The Council of the EU adopted the proposal for a regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market on 23 July 2014. The final adoption of the legislative document by the Council follows an agreement obtained in first reading with the European Parliament at the beginning of the year. The regulation will come into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, which should happen in the coming days.
The regulation will create a legal framework for electronic signatures, seals and time stamps, electronic documents as well as electronic registered delivery services and certificate services for website authentication.
