Following a unanimous decision of its General Assembly at a meeting in Brussels on 17 March 2017, the CNUE welcomes the Serbian notariat as observer member. The notarial service of the Republic of Serbia was introduced into the national legal system in 2011 and the first 94 notaries were appointed by the Ministry of Justice in August 2014. The Chamber of Notaries of Serbia was created on 15 August 2014 and notaries began their activities officially on 15 September of the same year. The Serbian notariat has been a member of the International Union of Notaries since October 2016.

The country now has 152 notaries, who deal with real estate transactions, succession procedures and the legalisation and certification of signatures and documents.
