EU citizens now have the possibility to find a notary who speaks their language anywhere in Europe. The brainchild of the Notaries of Europe and with European Commission support, the website www.notaries-directory.eu is now online. Thanks to the European Directory of Notaries, citizens will now be able to find a notary in Prague, for example, who speaks English and will be able to help them in their cross-border dealings (buying a property, settling a succession, etc.).
The technical infrastructure is very easy to use, allowing users to find the information they are looking for quickly and easily in the 23 languages of the European Union. The first choice to make is the country in which the search will be carried out. Additional criteria can then be entered: town, the name of a notary and/or a language spoken by the notary. It is then possible to consult the personal profiles of notaries corresponding to the search, with access to their contact details (postal address, telephone, email, website, etc.) and the location of their offices on a map of the town.
For Mr Rudolf Kaindl, the President of the Council of the Notaries of the European Union, this project stems from a simple observation: “the number of citizens who form links with citizens of another State for professional or private reasons continues to grow. This initiative is the first of its kind to respond to the European institutions’ wish to give European citizens better access to law and respond to their need for legal certainty. The Notaries of Europe are delighted to have been able to work on the project with the Commission’s support, doing their bit in the construction of a legal Europe”.
